Fife Fruit Trees (Producer)

Fife Fruit Trees is a new fruit and ornamental specialist tree nursery started by Adam Reid and based at Falkland Estate beneath the Lomond Hills.

Adam grew up in the heritage Orchard town of Newburgh, Fife. Over the past decade of horticultural work on Organic farms and orchards he has developed skills in orchard planning and maintenance, winter and summer pruning techniques and researched suitable varieties for different situations.

His love of trees led him to managing a tree nursery in Hampshire and in March 2025 he returned home to Fife.
This winter he can offer good value introductory prices on well-established 2 year apple trees on MM106 across 52 selected varieties, including some of the best performing cider, cooking and eating apples for Scotland. These having been growing at the nursery at Falkland can be lifted to order from November.

Visits to the nursery in Falkland are welcomed, please do get in touch if you’d like to have a look around and Adam would be delighted to meet you there.

For his future fruit tree offerings, Adam’s emphasis is on a broad range of choice of both variety and rootstock to suit various climatic conditions and planting situations in Scotland. Among the 5000 rootstocks he planted out in early 2025, there are both dwarfing and semi-vigorous cherry and plum. Dwarf rootstock cherries with protection are now achieving commercial success across East Scotland and cherries, apricot and even peach are an exciting addition to community orchards, especially when trained in a tunnel or fruit cage. For apples, Adam has budded 95 heritage and modern varieties onto M26, M116, MM106, MM111 and M25 rootstocks. Each rootstock has its merits, but a useful feature of M116 is its resistance to replant diseases which can be a concern when a replacement tree is required.
